The watch does include a telephone function, as you can make calls from your phone with the watch. That being said, one hand off the wheel, one hand on your watch and your eyes on your watch instead of the road is distracted driving.

My question here is, how did the officer know he was using his Apple watch? According to the article, the guy wasn’t wearing it, it was charging. And he said he noticed the cop following him for a bit without his lights on. Makes me think he was playing with the watch for a while before he got pulled over, which means he was swerving around, etc. which is unsafe.

Distracted driving used to mean a hamburger. The difference is I don’t need to look at a hamburger to eat it.
